I must agree. This is why they pay you to do this job or at least they did me. I wasn't a robot. I tried to think through situations before acting. Things can't always be automatic even if that's what we practice. You make judgement calls everyday. Usually the right ones, sometimes the wrong ones. I still remember being "killed" by a kid with cap gun. I just just about crapped my pants but I'm still glad I didn't shoot him.
Not sure I would agree with your assessment that "most of those instances were justified" or your conjecture of "is a good way to get yourself, your partner, or an innocent bystander killed."
Graham factors. SO many people are ignorant to the law that governs all LEO use of force encounters, and yet comment on every police shooting as if it was some kind of extra judicial killing.
“It’s more ironic that we had many instances where an officer uses deadly force and nothing happens to them,” Nothing ironic about it. Most of those instances were justified. This guy was on probation and when encountered with a deadly force incident failed to act accordingly. Assuming that an unstable person armed with a handgun will not hurt anybody else is a good way to get yourself, your partner, or an innocent bystander killed.
New one on me.
