You are all amazing warriors and heroes. This interview is a fascinating read, my prayers are with you all.
The pictures of the guys of 223 who have already died, along with Kurt's beyond excellent interview is both sobering and inspiring. For all the folks who have spent literally years now in and out of Name That Sandbox and have seen the endless, internecine conflicts... and yet still feel the pull to take on The Bad Guys at whatever cost just because their inner voice and compass pulls them... Respect and prayers. Thanks for this, Kurt. Guys like the men of 223 and Mike would be battling in obscurity, their stories unknown. SOFREP keeps shining a light on all this through their fantastic team. A million thanks.
A SEAL did WHAT to his WHAT? OMG! If any of these guys were my sons or grandsons, even my protection novenas to St Michael the Archangel would not put my mind at ease. These guys just seem like a whole different breed of men. The rest of us can only stand in awe of their bravery and desire to fight the bad guys for those who can not. Kurt, will Mike be going back, or you, as didn't you write that the Kurds are no longer accepting foreign fighters? Thank you!
Just wow! Kurt T, outstanding piece! The subject of your interview (Mike) has been in the middle of some serious combat. I am a bit cloudy on two issues discussed in the interview. Hopefully you can clarify the following: How was Mike able to extricate himself out of the Marine Corps (got bored as a radio operator) after two years and then join the Army for another two years? Lastly, I had no idea that we had conventional Infantry inside Turkey training Turkish forces in Counter-Insurgency Operations. I just assumed (obviously wrongly assumed) COIN training was an Army SF / Army SOF tasking. I learn something new every day
Giving a shit. Embodied.Give 'em hell and leave a mark. Oh ,and Kurt, nicely done.
