Meet America’s think-tank fellows who support jihad

Elizabeth O’Bagy, a young researcher with the Institute for the Study of War, helped bring America to the brink of war in 2013. Making fraudulent claims of having obtained a PhD, she was a fervent supporter of military intervention in Syria after she allegedly met with Syrian rebel groups. Her public testimony was fawned over by Senator John McCain and Secretary of State John Kerry, who used her fake credentials to backstop their march toward another military action in the Middle East. While portraying herself as an unbiased researcher, O’Bagy was also doing paid work for a pro-Syrian rebel lobbyist group called the Syrian Emergency Task Force. When O’Bagy was exposed, the house of cards came crumbling down. O’Bagy was fired from the Institute for the Study of War, but was quickly hired as a legislative assistant by Senator McCain.

The O’Bagy incident is just one of many bizarre cases of pseudo-intellectuals pounding on their war drums for further military interventions around the world. Their fever dreams have dire consequences for American foreign policy, pushing us further away from our own national interests and toward nonsensical, ill-conceived wars of choice. In the Western media, a constellation of think tank fellows and public relations firms continue to do the same, advocating for U.S. military action, no-fly zones, and the arming of allegedly moderate rebels in Syria.

The new warmongers

Charles Lister is one of the more prominent voices in the media pushing for U.S.-led meddling in the protracted and complicated Syrian Civil War. Taking a dim view of the Assad regime, along with their Russian and Iranian sponsors, Lister writes that the United States has placed too heavy an emphasis on the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), arguing that we must arm and equip Arab rebel groups in order to defeat ISIS and ultimately institute regime change in Syria.

    Took an awesome class in college on the early history of India and the Middle East. From the beginning of recorded history, the only thing consistent about that region is that on average, each country/territory will be ransacked every 150 years or so with genocide/rape/enslavement. I just love watching people think that they can outwit/outthink history. Barry Obama and I have not agreed on a lot, but his keeping us out of Syria for the most part has been right on. Unless we are willing to go at it with genocide/rape/enslavement (which I do not advocate, of course), there's not a lot of lasting effects to be had by any intervention there.

    Food For Thought: If you or I were to decide to help arm and supply terrorists...uh...rebels, we would go to prison for just planning to do it but these spoil, over educated brats get away with planning it up and encouraging others to do it. Why should they get away with the same crimes you and I would go to prison for? Personally, I think they should be tried for planning to commit war crimes and face either a gallows or firing squad.

    UNFUKKIN BELIEVABLE !!! What clowns we have in power... all due respect to McCain, but the man needs to go home and save any honor and reputation he may still have. Perhaps he's been a dork all along, Hanoi Hilton not withstanding.

    Quite an eye opener, I have read some of Listers stuff and recent A-al Sham info clearly points to the mindset of Nusra etc, outcome being same. The ease in which credentials can be created, inflated or misrepresented are mind boggling. I try to siphon as much info from as broad a spectrum that I can, and most sources I go through the effort to examine before taking at face value. Some may be just mere differences of opinion but damn; good to know Jack is there to sift the bull from the bullion. BZ as always. I always thought fire worshippers were Zoroastrian/Persians tho.
