Who Does Crimea Really Belong To?

This is a humble supplement to the letter from Mr. Hunt on the Russian-Ukraine conflict. It was a great read and I just wanted to outline some more of the historical context.

There’s been a lot of discussion about the ownership of the Crimea. Who is really the owner of this piece of land on the verge of a war?

For fourteen years none of Naval’s closest relatives knew that he was a GROM soldier. He spent half of this time at foreign missions participating in combat action. The answer to this question; "Who can say that this is their home?" is this. Those with the weapons and the will to enforce such claims. And that appears to be the Russians as of right now. No one has any right to anything unless those rights can be protected with armed might. We don't hold the United States by some mystic connection to the land. We hold it by force of arms. And the moment we give up those arms and the will to use them in defense of our territorial claims, we will no longer have a country. Russia marched into and annexed the Crimea because the Ukraine, the UN, the US and NATO lacked the will to enforce the sovereignty claims of Ukraine using force of arms. Which is all that really counts.
