Alex, thank you for the history lesson and sharing a story that needs to be told.
The brains behind the brawn seldom receive the credit or praise, but they are critically important, and vital to the success of any operation. As a retired math teacher, I would sometimes have an exceptionally gifted student in my class who the more brawny type boys would enjoy teasing. Whenever I overheard the "nerd...geek...dork...dweeb" comments I would always say, "Do you know what you will call him in 10 years?" "What," they would inquire. "BOSS" I would reply loudly! I borrowed that from a comic, and it never failed to silence the brawns, and put a little smile on the face of the "nerd." Many thanks to all the Wald's through history. Thanks, Alex
And behind all those nerds of the world was a teacher, like you Pat, who helped the nerds embrace their gifts in order to make our world a better and safer place. Thanks Pat and to all the teachers like you who stood up for the nerds when no one else would!
This article helps me understand my inate fear and distrust of dophins. We only hear the stories of when they bring back people to shore. We don't hear the stories of people they drag out to sea.
All warriors, the slide ruler gang, and the gritted teeth men of action. I would be happy to have ascribed to half their determination, sacrifice, and patriotism at some point in my life.
