The revolving door in the West Wing was swinging quite a bit this week. The President’s counsel John Dowd made for the exit and not far behind him, with pink slip in hand, was National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster. Walking in to the White House? John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the U.N.
All we need do to see what a controversial pick Bolton is turning out to be, is to peruse today’s headlines from around the world:
Yes, John Bolton Really Is That Dangerous - The New York Times
The Whole World Should Be Concerned: U.S. Allies React to Bolton’s Appointment- The New York Times
China hawk Bolton in, McMaster out, as Trump’s national security adviser - SCMP
John Bolton: Democrats attack choice as reckless, partisan - The Guardian
What Stands Between Bolton and Blowing Up the World? -CNN
John Bolton is already a lame duck and he knows it- The Hill
But the most fitting for our Bob Lang TOON today is:
John Bolton and the Tricky Politics of the Mustache - POLITICO
Bolton is known around Washington political circles, and from his time as a Fox News Contributor, as being direct— though some would call him abrasive. He has been labeled a neoconservative and a war hawk and there is a palpable fear on the left that he will bring the U.S. to the brink of war and beyond.
It’s not just the left that has concerns about Bolton being at the helm of Trump’s foreign policy. Conservative opponents see Bolton as an establishment guy and interventionist— having served in two Bush administrations—a member of the swamp they wish to drain. But it can be argued that Bolton has been a vocal critic of the establishment GOP and they have kept him out of power as a consequence. In 2016, Condoleezza Rice, along with her mentor, former secretary of state James Baker, and her deputy and successor as National Security Advisor, Stephen Hadley, openly opposed President Trump’s intention to appoint Bolton Deputy Secretary of State.
There are still plenty of those who support Bolton as the perfect pick to steer the President’s foreign policy agenda and Bolton, it seems, played the long game brilliantly. Sitting back after Trump chose to go with the recently fired Rex Tillerson, Bolton waited patiently until the President called him into service once again.
Perhaps what is most important is how America’s enemies feel about the pick.
What say you SOFREP? How do you feel about Bolton being at the wheel? Sound off in the comments.

Rec'd +1... funny how that plays out isn't it ?? Similar to certain family dynamic I've witnessed, "mine can do no wrong, your's are delinquents, whores, gangsta's" lol...6

Rec'd +1...I'm finally glad to not have to listen to the same old same old bullshit to pandering pols, but then I'm 'told to look at his behavior or speech', WTF ?? when did that become so damned important to the left ?? There's a History of shit headed Presidents on the Left... but suddenly the only matter of importance is who Trump banged Years ago ?? as if that means what ?? at least it was a Woman !! I didn't care when Willie was playing around with Monica, hell, if I was married to hrc I'd have sought a better bed mate also... tho far better looking with all that "Power" on hand... and I don't care about Trump's peccadilloes in or out of office... but then perhaps I'm more of a live and let live kind of guy... best... 6
