As cool as this exercise looks, i can't help but think that JSOC is so over-commited outside of CONUS that a well planned and coordinated nation-wide strike by a opfor nation state like Russia or other organized terrorist groups would be impossible to counter sufficiently. The command and logistics challenges of deploying and controlling multiple SF guard and LE reaction units alone would be enormous. And that without adding in other factors like disruption of public works and the resultant rioting of the populace etc to the mix. Consider switching the power off to Manhattan for three days and then run the same training sim. You would need a more distributed command and dedicated support and logistics framework for each "task team" so they could operate almost on a cell level to be agile enough to respond independently to each attack without a deep chain of command.
Assuming that Congress is alive to hear anything.
Similar exercises have been done in Los Angeles in past years. I have had the opportunity to play a small, very small, part. These exercises are necessary and valuable. The lessons learned in these peaceful and friendly environments must be had before they are required in those not friendly environments. If not, those naysayers will ask why we were not prepared and call for heads to roll...leading to those annoying Congressional hearings.
