James Powell

was, until recently, an intelligence officer with the US government. During his time, Powell focused on full spectrum intelligence operations related to the Middle East, South America and Africa, as well as liaison duties with foreign and US intelligence partners. In a past life, Powell was a 10 year United States Marine, and also worked in the nuclear security industry. He currently holds a dual BA in History and Political Science, and despite being a world class IO, he failed miserably in his last mission to steal the secret recipe for KFC's 11 Herbs and Spices chicken. His posts are his own opinions and do NOT reflect those of, nor are they in any way endorsed by, the U.S. government.

Militant attack on Indian military base heightens tensions, sparks false flag accusations

Early on Sunday morning, armed militants gained entry to an Indian military base in Uri, approximately 65 miles from the capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir and Jumu. In the ensuing chaos and gunfire, 18 Indian soldiers were killed. A few hours later, a shootout took place between an Indian Army unit and four militants, in which the four were killed. Russia’s 9/11 and the art of the false flag

“Our 9/11.” That’s what some Russians were (and still are) calling the September (9, 13, and 16) 1999 bombings of four apartment buildings that left close to 300 dead, more than 1,000 injured, and became the spark that reignited a brutal war with repercussions that have lasted to this day. Soon after the attacks, a device similar to the others was found and defused in the … [Read more...] about Russia’s 9/11 and the art of the false flag

US, Indian defense departments sign significant logistics agreement

On Monday, in what many would view as a mundane move, but one that is sure to have a lasting impact in the Pacific region, the United States and India signed an agreement that governs. among other things, the use of each other’s land, naval, and air bases for logistical operations such as repair and resupply. While the move will ease the process of joint operations between the … [Read more...] about US, Indian defense departments sign significant logistics agreement

How spy skills and ‘The Monster’ help me raise my kids

Last week, my youngest daughter had surgery. Nothing too major, but a tumor (benign, thank God) had to be removed from her head, so inside I was freaking out. I have had to deal with a lot in my lifetime, but seeing my little girl (OK, she’s 19, but what the hell ever. She still has me wrapped around her finger) in pain, and worse, having a severe panic attack while waiting for … [Read more...] about How spy skills and ‘The Monster’ help me raise my kids

A former CIA officer wades into the presidential bid knife fight

The game has just gotten stranger. Earlier today, a new camp announced it would be throwing their proverbial hat into the political ring. According to an ABC news article, largely unknown Evan McMullin announced today his bid to run for president of the United States. McMullin will run as an independent third-party conservative candidate representing the “Anyone but Trump” … [Read more...] about A former CIA officer wades into the presidential bid knife fight

First female enlisted sailor pins on her submariner’s “Silver Dolphins”

OK let’s get this out of the way: I believe that if a person – man, woman, gay, straight, Black, White, Hispanic, or whatever – is qualified to and has proven that they can do a certain job, that they should be allowed to do so. Having said that, I also believe that not one iota of said job standards and expectations should be changed. If a person wants to do the job that … [Read more...] about First female enlisted sailor pins on her submariner’s “Silver Dolphins”

Russia’s FSB grads party while Pokemon, Satan and the CIA Plot

So this one is going to be a double header. When it comes to Russia and her security and intelligence services, it seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same…and, well…change. Between the wildest graduation celebration that the spy world has ever seen (or not seen, if they do their job right) and Russian conservatives blasting the new Pokemon Go craze as … [Read more...] about Russia’s FSB grads party while Pokemon, Satan and the CIA Plot

Absurd allegations of a White House-ordered hit on late Supreme Court Justice Scalia continue

It started with a simple comment on Facebook. Normally, I try to avoid the comments on certain types of controversial posts or stories (i.e., anything that has to do with refugees or ABC’s "Scandal" spoilers—you people always ruin it for me!) because I know that the likelihood of someone saying something foolish is high. Even when I do venture a glance, I never really engage or … [Read more...] about Absurd allegations of a White House-ordered hit on late Supreme Court Justice Scalia continue

Will the world respond to the North Korean missile launch?

Approximately four hours prior to the writing of this article, North Korea made what appears to be the successful launch (reports are conflicting) of a long-range rocket. North Korean officials have said that the launch was simply to carry a satellite system into orbit, and that they had announced their intentions, but as expected, the event has caused quite a stir amongst both … [Read more...] about Will the world respond to the North Korean missile launch?

Did Beijing Play a Role in Hong Kong Publisher’s Disappearance?

In late December, 2015, Lee Bo, a Hong Kong-based shareholder of a book-publishing company, suddenly disappeared. He had not shown up to work, his family and friends had not seen nor heard from him, and his wife had filed a missing persons report with local authorities.
