Central African nation, Chad added to Trumps indefinite travel ban list. Why?

Washington, D.C. — While the nation along with most within the media were reeling from yet another Twitter rant from U.S. President, Donald Trump; the target of his ire were the players of the National Football League (NFL) and their decision to kneel during the playing of the National Anthem.

Another story, barely noticed by many, slipped under the social media chaff on Sunday, The Trump administration issued an update to its travel ban and barred all travel to the United States from seven countries that, according to the current administration, pose a threat to national security, indefinitely.

    Why? Simply put, terrorism. According to the Department of State, as of June 6, 2017: “The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of ongoing tensions and potential terrorist activity throughout Chad . . . Violent extremist organizations in the region, such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and Ash-Sham –West Africa (ISIS-WA), can easily cross borders and target foreigners, local security forces, and civilians. In May 2017, Boko Haram attacked a Chadian military base in the Lake Chad region . . . U.S. citizens affiliated with humanitarian relief efforts should develop an evacuation plan with the United Nations agency coordinating their work. All U.S. citizens should have evacuation plans that do not rely solely on U.S. government assistance.”

    I read about this earlier today, and I was glad to see that you had written on the topic. I personally wasn’t opposed to the original ban, although I thought it was rolled out in poor taste, but this new set of updates makes no sense at all. I’m not sure the administration ever had a plan for what this list would accomplish, and it seems abundantly clear that they don’t feel the need to share their thought process with anyone in the public.

    I would think that something of this magnitude would have been approved by the Secretaries of Defense and State as well as the CIA and others before it went marching out the door of the White House. It certainly didn’t get a lot of play when it appeared, though. Too much of a feeding frenzy going on with Trump’s testy tweets to the teams. Or…maybe I should have said timely tweets. lol

    “…almost exclusively on countries with Islam as its primary religion…” Uh, remind me again how many Swedes, Swiss, Japanese, and New Zealanders have committed terrorist attacks against the U.S. and its allies?
    …As to that monument… I have to believe that the people that designed it were “inspired” (if that’s the word) by the titanic monuments at Volgograd… (Formerly Stalingrad…) Click on images below to enlarge…
