When President Donald Trump tweeted his reversal of the Obama-era decision to allow transgender people to openly serve in the military on Wednesday, his secretary of defense, Jim Mattis, was on vacation and appalled by the move, according to the New York Times.
Mattis apparently only had one day’s notice about the decision, which he had labored over for months while evaluating how to implement the Obama policy.
Sources close to Mattis told the Times that he was “appalled” by Trump’s rollout of the policy, which shocked many in the Pentagon and left active-duty transgender service people unsure of their fate.
Trump’s decision to “not accept or allow” transgender service people comes after Obama essentially invited them to come forward and openly express their gender identity. It also follows a 2016 study commissioned by the Pentagon that found that transgender inclusion would have “have minimal impact on readiness and health care costs” for the 1.4 million strong US military.

Yeah, agreed. SOF Rep has alot of equity built up with me, but this looks like all the other cut n paste rubbish we see everywhere else. I feel it would be an entirely different article if they used an original or inside source.
You nailed it, I'm sure it made the political firestorm Mathis wanted to do, easier...
Posting content from other sites such as Business Insider dilutes the SOFREP brand. I never click on a Business Insider link since the site consists of click bait articles.
Mattis may very well have been "appalled" by the news, or by the way it had been delivered. It remains to be seen what his position is as he is too professional to blurt it out in the media without deliberate thought and respect to the POTUS.
Knowing Mattis's character from his own detailed history, how on earth would one be able to believe that he even allowed himself to "look, act, or speak" appalled. This is major "bull". He is too professional and only speaks intentionally. Even if he disagreed with Trump on the issue, or agreed but didn't agree with his method of transmitting it, no way would he allude to that in some hit piece article that he would have to know is anti Trump. To believe that, you would have to believe Mattis is dumb as a box of rocks. He is still a soldier and still has respect for the office of Commander in Chief...no matter who holds that title.
