A Texas Army National Guard Apache helicopter crashed 25 miles southeast of Houston at approximately 3 pm CST. The aircraft and soldiers were assigned to to 1-149 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion based at Ellington Field. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, and the names of the two soldiers have not been released yet.
The Houston Chronicle and KXAN stated that witnesses heard a loud noise and then saw the aircraft break apart before it crashed. Crews are still trying to recover the bodies from the submerged aircraft. In the images below, you can see divers near the submerged wreckage. More information to follow.

This is incredibly sad. I cannot imagine the heartache.
This was from my brother-in-laws unit here at Ellington Field. One of the soldiers has been identified as 33 year old Lucas Lowe, a 2008 Iraq vet, from Hardin, Texas. Lowe leaves behind a son, a daughter, and a wife pregnant with twins. The other soldiers identity has not been released yet. Sad day....
You are right. Training accidents are common, more than people think.
Lots of folks assume that just because military personnel are not deployed to a combat theater, they face no danger. Training accidents, whilst not an every day occurence, do happen and many Marines / Soldiers / Sailors / Airmen have lost their lives in stateside training accidents
