There will now be an investigation to determine if anything fishy happened during the incident.
A Portuguese Submarine Caught in Nets By Fishing Trawler Off Cornwall During NATO Exercise.
The submarine was taking part in a NATO exercise off Cornwall has become snagged in the nets of a fishing trawler.
The Portuguese Submarine NRP Trident was caught around 6am on Wednesday morning, around 35 miles southwest of Plymouth.
She was submerged after becoming tangled in the nets of the French vessel, Daytona.
The fishing boat’s nets were damaged by the catch as it trawled the waters for smaller fish.
A spokesman for the Royal Navy said there were no casualties:
Divers are now on the boat trying to see what damage has happened to the submarine. The submarine was assigned to Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) out of Plymouth and was released for the night.
