This was very enjoyable to read. I'm sure being a New Yorker one of my liberal friends will cite Turse in a Facebook debate with me next time they wanna push the "why white people are the worst thing to happen to the world since the meteor that hit the dinosaurs" debate.
When you're a liberal exercising liberal privelage it's always best to blame the military for the foreign policy failures of this administration. His skinny jeans must be cutting off the blood flow to his mangina to understand the asinine ROE that continue's to put US troops in a tactical disadvantage too often.
Turse seems to have done a number on Naylor's quotes. Making it seem that he is the putting forth the harsh criticism and conjecture.
I believe Turse, like anyone else who wishes to voice their expert opinion on such SOF and CounterInsurgency strategies, should join the ranks and experience it first hand. The only way to become subject experts is to write excerpts directly from the field. This is an open invitation for those who are such Professional keyboard Commandos to actually step up to the plate and join the Warrior caste. See ya in Camp Margarita or Camp Mackall ;-)
The so called failure of SOF in OEF/OIF are a reflection of the larger failed U.S. policy in each conflict. It was ridiculous to think that we'd defeat a counterinsurgency, lay the groundwork for a working infrastructure, and stabilize two nations in the span of 10-15 yrs. Had SOF commanders been in charge of the war, along with competent senior diplomats like Chris Stevens, there would have been a far better outcome.
