Huge “thank you” to Harry Claflin for getting me the photo of the memorial at U.S. embassy in San Salvador.
Harry, Marine Force Recon in VN, spent nine years in El Salvador and was commissioned as a captain in the Salvadoran Army. He stood up the very successful GOE program (Special Operations) and was the adviser to the Parachute Battalion.
Looking to present a feature on Harry in the near future for NewsRep.
Alan –
I’ve been privileged to sit and listen to some truly interesting folks with extensive personal and professional experience in CA/SA over the years. They’re the ones I rely on when I stick my big toe into these waters.
Next up is feature on Jennifer Casolo, church worker who turned guerrilla logistics supporter for the E.R.P. during the latter half of the war in El Sal. Quite the gal.
Greg,
If you ever decide to offer an online course of the history of US involvement in South America through the 70s and 80s I would sign up for it.
Also, why doesn’t somebody interview YP and write an article about his life?
You and he are by far and away the two most interesting guys that contribute to this website.
Just horrible – around this time there was a push to rotate in young run and gun guys who didnt speak Spanish so they wouldnt go native – just complete the “aid” missions and stay on base talking to no one outside the wire. That part of the world back then was a real shithole.
