Well, so far, I have done both. Witnessed the remembrances, and tried to tie into the pain, and loss that some have expressed – but usually the humor wins out discussing those gone before, and things turn to day to day matters, and day to day lives. Folks laugh, and move to the present tense, a good weekend so far. Thank you Jack for a great perspective.
That’ll preach. Thanks for sharing, Jack.
I would also add that reverence does not need to be somber, introspective perhaps. It is a recognition and appreciation of those who answered the call of duty and accepting the consequences both for the living and for those who have gone before us. Share some stories, some happy, maybe some sad, it keeps them with us who have not so long before we join them.
Excellent Jack. Some of us will get together today at my place and remember our brothers and sisters and celebrate what they sacrificed for, the free country that we live in. It reminds of the quote from General Patton, and I will paraphrase a bit here, “we should thank God that men such as these have lived.”
Very well written and thought out article, Jack. Thank you. It’s important for everyone to get the perspective of men like you.
