Almost got me with the 6.5 Grendel. Maybe they will get me next year.
This dove tails very nicely with an earlier post by Alex about the book "Narrative Warfare". It is not about truth or a falsehood. It is about connecting with your audience and understanding what is important to them. Marketing and selling a product to make bad breath go away and successful ISIS recruitment campaigns are more alike than different. The book makes a number of powerful points. One that stood out for me was you win the battle with kinetic energy. You win the war with words.
.300 blackout
Now THIS I like. And the question (for me) then becomes: How do you effectively fight against propaganda/marketing? Do you shut down free speech and capitalism? Do you educate people - the past is the key to the present? Do you pour money and effort into counter-propaganda/marketing? Do you let people learn life lessons through the school of hard knocks (and then grow too old for the younger generations to listen to hard-won wisdom)? Do you try to make people aware of the charlatan peddlers and shysters and hope they choose to dig deeper and think independently instead of jumping in with the crowd of torches and pitchforks or the bandwagon rattling down the road? Do you accept that there are a million different reasons to make dumb (thoughtless) decisions about how to spend your time and money and votes...and you probably can't legislate or make blanket social media prohibitions or impose sanctions to stop people from being persuaded by Russia or the planetary alignments or canned wisdom from the Simpsons?
Ah yes! I need to get rid of my .260 Rem rifle and get that new 6.5 Creedmore! It`s the new wonder cartridge! Everybody has one now,.....
