Indeed. The app hasn’t changed how JTACs communicate with pilots, it has just shortened the process considerably.
My guess is they connect to whatever Link-16 or VMF radio they’re already using.
So basically a 9-Line filled out on the app, then sent to the air asset, or vice versa? How does it interface with CAS role aircraft, seems like ATAK would be on both ends? Okay, now about security, encryption and of course the freq . . . is it riding on encrypted comms that flows between AWACS and the CAS asset – i.e. normal military RF frequencies???
