Congressman, former SEAL, opposes possible pardon for accused war criminals

The White House is reportedly drafting documents to pardon a number of convicted or alleged war criminals, including Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, but Congressman and former SEAL Dan Crenshaw is speaking out against such a move. “These cases should be decided by the courts, where the entirety of the evidence can be viewed. Only after that should a pardon be considered,” Crenshaw, a Texas Republican, told National Review.

Gallagher’s court-martial is scheduled to begin next week. He stands accused of murdering a detainee in Mosul, Iraq, during a combat deployment. The case has been contentious, with the defense attempting to court public passions while the defense has leaked legal documents to the media.

    Agreed that it needs to play out. However, the rumors surrounding what NCIS and the prosecution have done regarding rules of discovery and spying on the defense equally make it hard to say that Gallagher or Lt Portier will get a fair trial in regards to these cases. Playing games with evidence, not handing over ALL the evidence in discovery and witholding exonerating evidence have gotten civilian DA’s fired, charged and disbarred. I think Trump should let it play out so the lights get turned on for the Defense and the Prosecution. Then all the skeletons will come out to dance.

    I agree with Crenshaw, let the legal process take its course with the examination of evidence and hearing of witnesses. Not summary judgments at the behest of fox news talking heads. Bottom line is Chief Gallagher killed that kid – lets find out what really happened.

    I toataly agree with Crenshaw , this needs to play out. I also agree with him on most of his other positions in Congress . I follow him on You Tube , I believe is is one of the most aware Congressmen out there, and certainly has earned the right to express it.
