Hear! Hear! Three cheers for Mr. Hollings, one of the few news guys who makes sense!
Wonderfully said, Alex. I believe the news media knows the general public is so ill informed, they can tell the public anything and the public will believe it….along with the reasons you so nicely said in your commentary. BTW, I shared this article.
The majority of the media are pure “orange man bad” types. They will twist any headline to make Trump seem like an insane and/or evil and/or truly stupid person and do the same to any policy he suggests…including the ones they (the media and the left, but I repeat myself) actually like. I’m no fan of the man, and I too have been highly critical of him, but I’m no political hack one way or the other. I call it as I see it and most people don’t like or can’t fathom not being a tribalist. That being said, the media is also almost totally ignorant, so they have that going for them.
Trump-Russia delirium, and how it was induced and how it’s been used after it was induced in essentially the global population that is exposed to mass media / social media, is something that will be studied in war colleges for decades to come.
Every now and then, when there are no good sports on TV or old movies, I’ll fliip between MSNBC and FoxNews just to get a pulse of the population divide. Last night after the SOTU was an interesting thing.
I honestly don’t know how the people that get paid to produce and talk on MSNBC (i.e. Maddow) can do what they do with a straight face – the Russian collusion thing going on 3 years now is pure insanity. But the target audience is still out there – BIGLY, so it’s obvious she’s either nuts, or married to the pay check she’s getting for pumping the delirium audience.
As for the other side, i can honestly say that the Trump admin is winning me over bigly – but it’s not without flaws for sure, and Trump failed to address some serious stuff last night (I touched on this elsewhere – Syria and Afghanistan troop presence for example when he had the attention of a legislative body that through his theatrics was actually behaving and listening as a unit and not as two parties, among other things, but most of the time when I see that Hannity, I’m reaching for a tissue box for him to help wipe up.
On topic, I thought you nailed it on this in that other piece you wrote Alex, and I thought it was quite clearly explained, and this one is a very good example of demonstrating how the media uses headlines to target audiences for consumption (And – how that’s bad for the country, when the subject is pretty important).
The one thing you can’t say the Obama admin was they were bad at manipulating opinion by media and words alone. Dreamers. It’s been absolutely fascinating through 2 years and counting now, how Trump admin has been dealing with the problem of messaging in the social media post print media death world.
Thanks man!
