At 1200’clock on the dot, Tanto pulled up in his pickup truck jamming out to a recent playlist he created. I greeted my friend with a firm handshake and bottle of aged whiskey.
While catching up, we drove through downtown Omaha enroute to Kris’s home. I found Omaha to be cleverly designed with a modern industrial-like appearance. The streets were populated with craft beer houses and mom and pop shops that gave it a hometown feel. This is exactly where I would’ve guessed Tanto to have staked his claim.
Kris’s house is set at the end of a secluded street with acres of triple canopy encircling his cedar cabin style dwelling. While I assume not by design, you couldn’t set up a more hardened defensive position. In a subconscious act, Kris made a Y-turn, and tactically parked inside the garage.
Walking inside, I immediately trip over boxes of 13 Hours Blue Ray movies and books, fan mail, and an assortment of items ranging from tactical gear to coffee products that vendors sent. This was all recent shipments that Kris had yet to sort through after a few days home from speaking engagements and charity events around the country.
While looking at all the boxes of gear, I joking asked for one of everything in sight. In a sincere gesture, Kris laughed and then gifted me with a custom made buttstock valued around $600 bucks. I refused once and then selfishly recanted.
Kris has the uncanny knack for leaving every individual with a personal experience. He will personalize any book or stay for the last audience member wishing to meet him. When we were out to dinner, he noticed an elderly couple exiting and walked down a flight of stairs to hold the door open for them. He remains hard at work by conveying the message of overcoming any odds when the deck is staked against you:
“If we believe in ourselves, our brothers, and God, we can overcome any obstacle put in front of us. That night, we were given so many opportunities to quit, even by our leadership, and it would have been OK, but we didn’t. Never give up, and have faith. If you believe in God and in your brothers to stand together, you will never lose.”
Kris is collaborating with SOFREP’s crate club to build a custom “Tanto” premium crate for March of 2017. Be sure to sign up for this premium quarterly crate in advance here.
