What the hell happened to the quiet professionals? I agree with you Geo he made his bed and now he must sleep in it. I know we’re all human and as humans we are going to F up at times. Having served in uniform myself I believe personally (maybe naively) that those who serve in those same uniforms should be held to a higher standard. I grew up with a love of history and a family that serves in the military. I learned early on the sacrifices that have been made throughout this countries history. When you enlist and you put that uniform on you are now a part of that lineage and you just don’t sully it. To me it’s like one’s last name. You never disrespect it or dishonor it. I always saw wearing the uniform as a privilege. Being part of a long line of men and women who accomplished so much meant something.
If Chief Gallagher did what he’s accused of than he’s dishonored not only his service and the uniform but his name as well. I feel the same with those who took part in covering it up.
Eddie supports my pompous boast that men wouldn’t do near as much of the phukt-up bull$hite they do if they couldn’t brag about it.
Eddie made his bed; good night, Eddie.

The granting of immunity is a standard practice in the US legal process. Immunity is carefully weighed to include researching the witness or witness’ background, reputation otherwise, and qualifying the weight of their testimony against the primary defendant.
Part of that research process includes factors that may have affected or prevented the witness from reporting or speaking out, such as meaningful intimidation of the witness (e.g. threat to ruin career). Once a witness is immunized – and many potential such witnesses have retained lawyers who navigate this process on behalf of their client – the witness then has to prepare to be cross-examined to the nth degree by the primary defendant’s lawyer once in court.
An immunity “deal” can include provisions that indeed impact the witness and to which they have to agree to.
As an attorney who practices in both the UCMJ and the civilian world this case is taking the turn that mafia trials take give immunity to the co-operating witnesses and don’t bring up their misdeeds in what they did with the accused. It seems the JAG prosecution has decided to get Gallagher at all costs, immunizing witnesses who’ve committed crimes to get the “Capo” or “Don”. US Attorney in Massachusetts did that with Steve Flemi 26 kills or more and was given immunity to testify against his boss. This Court Martial is starting to smell and not very good. Joni I doubt Chief Gallagher is going to get a fair trial, neither is the LT.
The term “Quiet Professionals” belongs to the Army’s Special Forces, or “Green Berets”. It does not and never was meant to describe the other Services’ SOF units.
