NEWSREP has gone through many changes over the years, but one of the few constants was Jack Murphy leading the entire Hurricane Group editorial staff as site-wide Editor-in-Chief. As of today, Nick Coffman will be filling that role. So why the change?
First, Jack isn’t going anywhere. He is still the lead man for NEWSREP. The change simply relieves him from the daily administrative responsibilities across all of our sites that the title brought with it. For those not aware, the Editor-in-Chief role largely involves daily management and supervision of the writing staff, ensuring that editing and content direction are appropriate, the assigning of stories, and an assortment of other admin tasks.
To aid our growth as a news site, this change allows Jack to focus on his strengths as a journalist covering hard-hitting topics, as well as freeing him up to potentially travel more in support of that down the line. He is also busy throughout the week co-hosting the SOFREP Radio show, and he has a few new projects on the horizon. For those of us who are fans of his work, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of him.
What does this mean for the future direction of the site? More of the same. Great content, top-notch journalists, and a continuation of the standard that Jack and Brandon established years ago. We have a great writing staff, and will be supplementing the current team with new writers as the right candidates come along.
Nick Coffman joined the writing staff in January of 2016. Recently he was working behind-the-scenes as NEWSREP Managing Editor — a role that has a lot of overlap with the Editor-in-Chief’s responsibilities.
Regarding this opportunity, Nick stated, “I have been fortunate to work with so many great people over the years and to cover some important topics. This job is a dream come true. After more than six years with my previous company, when this opportunity materialized, I felt the time was right to make the switch to NEWSREP full-time. I am thankful to have the chance to lead an amazing team of writers in continuing to deliver the independent and courageous news that NEWSREP is known for. Jack is a friend who has mentored me since day-one, and I look forward to working with him as we move forward.”
We’d like to offer a sincere thanks to you, our loyal fans, for sticking with us through many transitions over the years. Brandon, Jack, Nick, and the rest of the team are still going strong.
